Story here.

Yes, our brave warriors have once again engaged the enemy. Just as they have throughout our great nation's history. Canada at its valorous best.

A Canadian soldier was wounded in Afghanistan today when insurgents fired on a military patrol in Gumbad, about 70 kilometres north of Kandahar City.

The soldier was airlifted to the Canadian-led multinational hospital at Kandahar airfield where he underwent surgery for headwounds, said CTV's Steve Chao, in Kandahar.

The soldier's name has not been released.

Canadian troops returned fire to the insurgents, killing one of the attackers.
