Lord's Options

Ok, so the New Brunswick Liberals won yesterday's election. So be it.

Four more years of high taxes and economic stagnation. So be it.

Just watch them mess up. They have no idea what they're going to do, anyway. Nor did those who voted for them. Oh, well...

Well, National Newswatch has received information from NB Tory insiders about Tory leader Bernard Lord's options for the future (emphasis mine):

Our insider tells us on the condition of anonymity that Mr. Lord will consider three options. Option number one: A run for a seat in the next federal election for the Conservative Party of Canada. Our source indicated that the key to Lord's jump into federal politics will depend on the timing of the next federal election. If the rumours are true and the Tories are planning for a 2007 spring election, the likelihood of Lord sticking around and running federally becomes a greater reality.

However, Lord's second option: which our insider says is the preferred option, is a ambassador posting in France.

Option number three: Stay on as leader of the opposition. This is one option that our insider insists is not on the table.

Looks like the Lord has better things to do than waste his time yelling across the aisle at rookie premier Shawn Graham, who'll likely just do pretty much as he pleases anyway. Myself, I don't see much coming out of another Liberal regime in NB, but I'd invite Shawn to prove me wrong. Most important of all is to turn the province into a "have" province, no longer requiring "equalization" transfers from Ottawa (Oh, wait... I mean from Alberta, of course! Ottawa is merely the middleman). Failure to take meaningful steps towards this goal (and achieve it, too) will mean failure of the Liberal regime, period, for self-sufficiency for the province is the only real goal now.

Of course, I'll have to concede that New Brunswick didn't become a "have" province under Lord's premiership. I'll leave it up to Mr. Lord to deal with the inevitable questions about that for himself.

Good work getting the story, National Newswatch!
